How To Stay Cool This Summer Without Overworking Your AC

Summer is coming, and with it comes the battle to stay cool. Even if shade, shorts, or sandals are your first choices for staying comfortable in the heat, your primary weapon is your air conditioner.

Unfortunately, your battle buddy feels the strain as much as you do. During the summer months, your air conditioner works constantly to keep up with the warm weather outside.

This can cause an increase in your electric bill and a decrease in your heat tolerance. So before you reach for the thermostat, here are a few cost and energy efficiency tips to help you stay cool and content.

Battle Heat with Ceiling Fans

The breeze that a ceiling fan creates can offer immediate relief when you’re feeling overheated. Ceiling fans will also circulate cooler air through your home, helping add some cool air to your hot home.

Pretty soon, you’ll notice that combining the use of your air conditioner and ceiling fans will leave your home feeling cooler for longer periods of time.

Hydrate with Cold Water

Well, there will be a similar effect if you drink cold water during the summer. The cold water will have two effects on your system. First, it will lower your body temperature.

In a way, this will trick your mind into thinking it’s not as hot as you first thought it was. Second, it will keep you hydrated. This is even more important than just staying cool. Exposing yourself to hot weather increases your chances of dehydration which can cause headaches, fatigue, and dizziness.

Block Out the Sun With Blinds

The reason for this is because direct sunlight is accompanied by heat. The heat from the sun enters your home and causes it to warm up quicker than you’d like it to.

Not everyone likes to rely on artificial lights during the day though. If you are the type of person who prefers natural to artificial light then light curtains will suit your needs better. The curtains will allow you to enjoy the natural light while keeping the heat outside.

No one is immune to the heat or its effects. A high electric bill because of your air conditioner is no laughing matter either. Unfortunately, some consider it a necessary evil when battling the summer weather. High temperatures don’t mean you have to be miserable though.
